ALGAE-X FAQ's
How long does the ALGAE-X LGX unit last?
Since there are no moving parts or components to replace, clean, or
service the life of the unit is somewhat endless. LGX units have a
lifetime warranty. On most models you can remove the cover for
inspection, but in most cases you do not need to do anything. The
only exception is when the LGX unit is installed in equipment with
steel tanks. In this case you will need to periodically open the unit
for inspection and rust particle removal.
How do I install an
ALGAE-X Fuel Conditioner?
The LGX unit should be installed between the fuel tank and the primary
filter, or between the main storage tank and the centrifuge. The LGX
can be installed at any angle except inverted. It should be installed
on the input side of the filter in a fixed position such as, directly
mounted on the filter. The use of brackets or straps is recommended
but not mandatory as long as there is support for the unit. Be aware
of vibrations and inspect fittings regularly. Engine and/or filter
manufacturers recommended specifications should be followed when using
connectors and fuel lines of appropriate diameter, material, and
quality. It is very important that the LGX unit is installed using a
petroleum resistant sealant on all connections. DO NOT use Teflon
tape or thread sealant tape. This material will wick fuel out of the
fitting and eventually create leaks.
How long does it take to install a LGX unit?
After you have determined where the LGX is going to be installed and
have the proper fittings it can be installed relatively quickly.
However, we know equipment and we expect that it would take, in
reality, a little longer.
When can I expect results?
You should see results quickly. You will not see optimal efficiency
until the fuel has sufficient time to circulate a few times. Using
the AFC-705 catalyst will promote the process. Adding an onboard
polishing system will advance the fuel quality dramatically.
Why should I install the LGX before the filters?
As the diesel fuel goes through the LGX the particles are broken down
as they flow through the magnetic field. The smallest particles will
pass through the filter and get burned in combustion. The larger
particles will get trapped by the filter. This will help the filter
last longer.
Can I use a LGX fuel conditioner with an iron tank?
YES. But not recommended. Always remember, Iron tanks deteriorate and
flake loose particles of iron. This Iron is captured by the unit and
will restrict flow over time. You will need to remove the cover and
clean out the iron from the magnet. This can be done in place and no
removal or discarding and replacement of the unit should be
necessary. Then simply reinstall the cover and start the engine. The
LGX unit will continue to condition the fuel as before.
How many LGX units do I need?
Generally you need one per engine and generator. However, if your
fuel system is set up with fuel manifolds you may only need one LGX
unit per vessel. When designing a system it is best to call for
recommendations.
Are all magnetic fuel conditioners alike?
No. While other fuel conditioners do work. The LGX works more
efficiently due to the amount of time that the fuel is in the magnetic
field. This has been proven through time and the number of satisfied
customers using the product. Look for the proof. Browse websites for
multiple testimonials and lab test reports. Look for customer lists
and proof of all claims. If numbers are given from the EPA, ask for
the report.
Which unit would be
correct for my application?
For the most part the LGX units are sized by fuel line diameter and
flow. However, since there are other things to consider it may be
useful to call for a recommendation
Will I need special fittings?
Follow the recommendations of the engine and/or filter manufacturers
when using connectors or fittings and size the fuel line to
appropriate diameter, material, and quality. Algae-X recommends that
you have your unit professionally installed. But, it maybe installed
by a knowledgeable-do-it yourselfer as well. We suggest you use a hose
barb or equivalent fuel line fitting. It is very important that the
LGX unit is installed using proper sealant on all connections.
