ALGAE-X Fuel Polishing

Trawler Boats and Sail Boats

How Simple Can It Be?

By now, you have read the article on a fuel polishing page in a website.  Fuel polishing in no way has to be complicated.  Breaking the process down to it's simplest terms will allow you to think about a component approach.  Why would you think about a component approach?  Because, in certain cases it is easier to build your own system rather than a pre-packaged system.  For vessels that have fuel tanks smaller than 150 gallons it may be easier to build a do-it-yourself system.  For tanks larger than 150 gallons in capacity it is best to go pre-packaged.  The primary goal of fuel polishing is to clean up your fuel and tanks.  To do this the fuel must pass through an ALGAE-X fuel conditioner and filter multiple times.  Each time the fuel passes through the ALGAE-X fuel conditioning unit the "sludge" particles become smaller and smaller and get more dissolved by the "clear and clean" fuel.  After the fuel becomes "clean and clear" it is much easier to maintain and requires less time on your part.  Below is a diagram of a simple fuel polishing do-it-yourself system.

In this simple system fuel is pulled from the tank through a common suction line.  In this line you install an ALGAE-X Magnetic Conditioner.  Fuel moves through the LGX unit and into your primary fuel filter.  This filter continues the same job as it has for many hours, filtering dirt and removing water from the fuel.  Then you install a three-way valve to select whether you would like to polish fuel or run your engine.  Selecting the polishing option will send the fuel to a fuel pump that is rated for this duty cycle.  The pump moves the fuel back through a common return line to the tank.  Simply put you would purchase the following list:

FUEL PUMP (P4389)
FUEL CONDITIONER (LGX SIZED FOR FLOW)
FUEL CATALYST (AFC-705)
THREE-WAY VALVE (VA-365N-L)
SPST TOGGLE SWITCH RATED TO 20 AMPS
NPT MALE PIPE TO HOSE BARB CONNECTORS
ENOUGH HOSE TO PLUMB THE SYSTEM
HOSE CLAMPS AND MOUNT STRAPS

TOTAL COST $350 TO $600
COST TO REMOVE AND DISCARD 150 GALLONS OF SPOILED FUEL $300 TO $800
KNOWING YOU CAN CLEAN UP A BAD LOAD OF FUEL WHILE SAILING................. PRICELESS

If installing a system is not your bag, or you just do not want to do it then turn to the next best thing.  Purchase an ALGAE-X model TK-180 portable fuel polisher.  You can connect this to your battery and fuel lines or tank and turn it on.  For small tank sizes it is the perfect solution.
